HSC GPA 5 — last three years at a glance

Figures below are for all 11 education boards (9 general + Madrasah + Technical), as published on result day.

In 2025, GPA 5 holders fell by about 76,814 compared with 2024. That sharp drop is why students, colleges and the media will watch the 2026 GPA 5 count closely.

Board-wise GPA 5 (HSC & equivalent 2025)

Official briefing numbers for GPA 5 in 2025:

Among general boards, Dhaka had the most GPA 5 holders and the highest pass rate in 2025; Cumilla had the lowest pass rate among the nine general boards.

What does GPA 5 mean in HSC?

GPA 5.00 is the highest published result. You need an average grade point of 5.00 across the counted subjects — in practice that means A+ (80–100 marks) in the compulsory and group subjects that enter the GPA, with optional-subject rules applied.

If you get F in any compulsory subject, the result is fail (GPA 0.00) even if other subjects are A+. Use the GPA calculator to recheck once you know each letter grade.

How the 4th (optional) subject helps

Only the grade points above 2.00 from the optional subject are added as a bonus. Example: A+ (5.00) in the 4th subject adds 3.00 points to the total before dividing. The final GPA cannot go above 5.00. That bonus is often what turns a 4.8x into a full GPA 5.

“Golden GPA 5” is a popular phrase for A+ in every subject. Boards officially publish GPA 5 only — they do not use a separate “golden” label in the result sheet.

Why GPA 5 matters for university admission

• Medical (MBBS) admission gives fixed weight to SSC and HSC GPA.
• Engineering universities often demand strong Math, Physics and Chemistry — not only overall GPA 5.
• General universities set minimum combined SSC+HSC GPA and may use different rules by group.

Missing GPA 5 by a small margin does not close every door. Read each university circular. If a subject looks wrong, apply for board challenge / re-scrutiny only through the official link after result day.
